The Canadian Coalition on Climate Change and Development (C4D) has offered to assist the Canadian International Development Agency in its efforts to help Southern communities adapt to climate change.

In a November 5, 2012 letter to the new Minister for International Cooperation, the Honourable Julian Fantino, C4D co-chairs, Carole Thiessen and Kaia Ambrose congratulated the Minister on his recent appointment and commended him for recent visit to the Sahel region of Africa where he witnessed the effects of climate change first hand.

The Co-chairs noted that C4D is pleased to have been asked to provide input on CIDA’s proposed framework for Environmental Sustainability and that they will suggest ways to integrate climate change adaptation into the strategy, and that the strategy should in turn, be a cross-cutting theme that informs all of CIDA’s work. They shared C4D’s 2010 case studies on climate change adaptation as one example of what the coalition and its partners have been learning, and requested a meeting with the Minister and his staff.
