Climate change is increasingly intersecting with the challenges faced by people seeking to emerge from poverty. In many communities, climate change threatens the development gains of the past years. It undermines efforts to reduce poverty and vulnerability in the developing world and poses a serious threat to the attainment of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Canadian development organizations and their partners in the global South realize that they must design their programs to ensure resilience and continued sustainability. Our responsibility as global citizens includes enhancing our collective ability to mitigate this risk, and bringing a collective voice to bear on Canada’s role in addressing this challenge.
